Job Description
The Vice President of Strategic Marketing & Communications at AeroVironment (AV) oversees development and execution of comprehensive communications and marketing plans and strategies designed to support business and organizational goal fulfillment, promote company visibility, and optimize overall brand awareness and engagement in target markets. Develops, implements, and manages communications and marketing strategies, tactics and activities to garner consistent and compelling visibility across media and communications channels served by the organization. Provides leadership support for the overall strategic direction and implementation of internal and external communications across the organization.
Position Responsibilities
Create and manage a strategic marketing campaign for a world-class defense company that sets the standard across the industry while building customer and global brand awareness.
Provide forward thinking creative leadership by inspiring creative collaboration across the organization
Effectively translate branding and marketing strategies for a wide range of products, verticals, events, and brand initiatives in collaboration with key stakeholders
Develop innovative concepts, implementing strategic positioning and messaging in all communications while keeping with project scope, business requirements, timelines, and budget
Oversee the marketing and communications department leading and developing a team of functional marketing experts with a focus on business process optimization and continuous learning
Develop innovative programs collaborating with the Product Line Management and Business Development teams to deliver results-oriented campaigns focusing on digital, brand, PR, product, content, and event marketing
Advocate for marketing best practices, innovation and success metrics and test strategies across the organization
Manage internal and external websites, social media channels and internal communications media with responsibility for content, optimal user-experience, and design
Draft and finalize messages, presentations, executive communications, internal communications, and other media materials, as necessary
Work with teams across the organization to ensure the consistent and actionable implementation of AV's brand and user experience precepts in all stakeholder touchpoints, including media, physical spaces, user interfaces and industrial design
Assist in planning and organizing media activities. Prepare management for interviews with media and other key corporate communications interactions.
Develop press releases, position statements and Q&A to support media relations efforts.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
Bachelor's Degree in business and/or marketing or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
10+ years of proven success developing and managing brand strategies with experience connecting those strategies to business results
15+ years in marketing and/or communications
8+ years of experience supervising a marketing team
Deep understanding of traditional and digital media, learning products and services, and the spectrum of customer touchpoints
Ability to think strategically and creatively, but also detail-oriented with the ability to manage projects from inception through execution; deadline driven with ability to multi-task
Experience gathering and using data to make findings, draw conclusions from those findings, and then communicate those conclusions
A desire and ability to flourish in a dynamic, high-growth, entrepreneurial environment
Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to influence and drive implementation
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; excellent organizational skills.
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
Advanced degree is preferred
Demonstrated competency in using data analysis and forecasting to optimize marketing spend.
Strong organizational skills to balance multiple people and projects successfully and efficiently
Stays abreast of innovations in the field of marketing and defense
Consistently demonstrates high organizational skills to balance multiple projects successfully and efficiently
Able to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties

Physical Demands
Ability to work in an office environment (Constant)
Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)
Ability to travel internationally and within the Unites States for company meetings and events, and customer meetings and events.

The salary range for this role is:
$220,000 - $288,750
