Role Overview:

This position will serve as a Summer Intern for the Greenfield District Construction Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide a valuable learning experience for the intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities. The Intern will report to a contract-specific Project Engineer/Supervisor/Manager, depending on workload and location.

Hourly Rate:

The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor's degree.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

Construction Inspection including possible testing.

Other duties as assigned

Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study

Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline

Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations

Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects

Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives

What You'll Need for Success:

Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or a related field

Relevant work experience preferred

Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT

Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations

Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process

Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports

Analytical skills

Ability to handle multiple projects

Ability to operate computer tools

Good research and writing skills

Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts

Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
