Position Overview:
Functions as a technician under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Responsible for fulfilling all non-professional aspects of pharmacy practice under direction of the pharmacist. Follows routine prescription dispensing procedures, adhering to laws pertaining to prescription dispensing. Activities include: computer entry, insurance billing, retrieval of medications/supplies to fulfill prescription orders, counting and packaging medications, medication and supply ordering, documentation of offer to counsel and receipt of medications, and various cash register transactions. Must be able to multi-task and perform repetitive tasks accurately.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility for answering phone calls from patients, clinic staff and others, taking refill requests, and triaging calls to the pharmacist(s).
Acquires all patient demographic information required by law and insurance information needed to process the prescription.
Performs computer data entry functions required in processing prescriptions to be filled for various customer @types, including retail customers, employees, and nursing facility residents.
Calls insurance companies for overrides/troubleshooting of rejections.
Retrieves, counts, pours, bubble packs, reconstitutes and labels prescriptions as required for each individual patient's needs and requirements of pharmacy law. Recording lot numbers, expiration dating, confirming the NDC matches the label to the correct product, attaching prescription label and appropriate auxiliary labels to package, and initialing the fill sticker, punch card, or compounding worksheet to mark the completion of their work before giving to the pharmacist for their verification.
May include preparation of non-sterile compounds after competency established.
Reorders products from wholesalers and vendors as needed.
Restocks medications and supplies for the department, including receiving orders from wholesaler, stocking product on shelves, in refrigerator and or stocking dispensing machines.
Retrieves completed prescription ready for dispensing as requested by patient or patient's representative and completes sale transaction at register as appropriate.
Processes and completes prescriptions that are to delivered or mailed out in accordance to patient's request.
Completes required paperwork for payor requirements.
Maintains files of prescriptions according to storage requirements.
Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
Assists in orientation and training of new staff members.

Skills and Experience:
Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Registered as a Pharmacy Technician by the State of Minnesota within 1 week of start
Required to pass employer-sponsored training program within 1 year of start date or as required by the Board of Pharmacy to achieve full registration with the state board
Ability to perform basic to intermediate math calculations, including solving equations
Basic Computer Skills: Word, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred:
Previous pharmacy experience and Certified Pharmacy Technician designation is preferred but not required
