Summary
Work requires application of in-depth knowledge of professional standards and precedents in area of specialty. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires and in-depth evaluation of various factors. Incumbents are accountable for quality of work delivered by external suppliers as applicable. Incumbents have decision-making authority and autonomy to deliver on goals of team. Influences others outside of team to ensure goals are met and resolves conflicts in an effective manner. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and serious delays in overall schedules of a site and/or regional function. May lead a multi-functional work group or project team consisting of one or more support staff and/or tech/professional staff, or may provide advice and guidance in area of specialty. May determine new methods and procedures. Seeks out new avenues for building internal and external relationships; maintains contacts with existing relationships. Interfaces with senior managers on issues related to the area of expertise. Interacts with and influences management and/or customers on significant issues.
Detailed Description
Advanced expertise in one or more areas of specialization; applies expertise cross-functionally. Work is guided by broad site objectives and corporate policy.
Oversees very complex, or multiple complex projects, including cross-functional projects where a high degree of judgment and independence are required in developing solutions and resolving unusual problem situations.
Decision-making authority and autonomy to deliver on goals of department/function, as applicable.
Influences others cross-functionally to ensure department or functional goals met, and resolves conflicts in an effective manner. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in critical delay in Business Unit schedules and/or operation.
May lead a regional functional area or project team with significant impact on company results, or may be an expert in their field, providing ideas, opinions and advice to others.
Acts independently to determine new methods and procedures.
Builds cross-functional relationships where persuasive skills, negotiation skills, and considerable tact are required to gain support.
Interfaces with senior managers on issues related to the area of expertise.
Maintains positive relationships with key customers, suppliers, etc., who have a significant impact on the success of the organization.
May represent the organization in public speaking venues and/or community events.
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
Provides technical direction, within a discipline, of product level complex projects which may span from inception to completion of development.
Prioritizes, Schedules, and Coordinates and defines the technical aspects of projects.
Coordinates activities of assigned team members.
Responsible for interfaces/interactions between defined pieces of a total project.
Reviews contribution of others for validity of approach, completeness, and thoroughness and/or mentors and advises others on design and analysis.
Interacts at functional management level (internal and external) regarding project status.
Significant contributor to and driver of functional level development process improvement.
Responsible for keeping organization current with developments in industry and technology that may impact Celestica's ability to meet and/or exceed customer's expectations and requirements.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
In-depth knowledge and understanding of the design process for systems and printed circuit boards, subassemblies, or other related company products.
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment used for systems and printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
In-depth knowledge of industry and quality standards and SPC methodologies.
In-depth knowledge of materials and components used in the construction of systems and printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
In-depth knowledge of material science, robotics, machine programming.
In-depth knowledge of product pricing, contracts and contract negotiations.
In-depth knowledge of design engineering (e.g., analog circuit design, digital circuit design, digital integrated circuit design, etc.) for systems and printed circuit boards.
In-depth knowledge of IT platforms, database design and programming languages.
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and SCM/Logistics information processes.
Excellent customer contact, negotiation and problem resolution skills.
Excellent project management, presentation, database management and computer skills.
Strong knowledge of statistical process control methods and techniques.
Ability to design tests, evaluate results and recommend solutions to improve the processes associated with SMT manufacturing.
Ability to evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
Strong knowledge of IT platforms, database design and programming languages.
Strong knowledge of some or all of the following: UNIX, NT, database management system.
Ability to evaluate materials, gather and analyze data and determine root cause of problems.
Ability to simultaneously manage several projects and coordinate multiple, changing deadlines.
Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
Ability to effectively organize, manage and motivate team members from a wide variety of departments and with a diverse group of skill sets.
Physical Demands
Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
Regular Travel within the US required
Typical Experience & Education
Ten plus years' relevant experience.
Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
