Summary Transportation Assistant reports to the Health Administration Service. You will work in the Beneficiary Travel/Veteran Transportation Services department scheduling Veteran transportation and processing mileage reimbursement claims. Responsibilities Include but not limited to: Performs work involving consult management, transportation scheduling, and and mileage reimbursement processing. Collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information & performs a basic analysis of the data. Interacts with various other transportation services such as Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW), and other transportation services. Coordinates the day-to-day operation of the Beneficiary Travel and Veteran Transportation Service program flow, processes, and functions. Provides advice to operating managers and supervisors on how provided services assist in accomplishing their missions and programs. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/01/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-06 Minimum Qualifications: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information in support of the service; Generating a variety of reports; Coordinates service practices; Has expert knowledge of enrollment and Beneficiary Travel eligibility. Plans and provides support services for electronic records management. Transportation scheduling, and travel reimbursement. Physical Requirements: Incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes. Duties will be predominantly performed in the Veteran Transportation Service program office with intermittent trips to various locations throughout the Medical Center's catchment area both in and near patient care areas where there may be risk of exposure to disease.
