TITLE: TEACHER AIDE

Qualifications 1) High School Diploma or GED 2) Experience with children in desired educational setting

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to establish good relationships with children and others; familiarity with classroom routine; good background or knowledge in specific field where specialized duties are involved; above average clerical aptitude; resourcefulness in conducting activities related to the teaching process; ability to maintain discipline; and exercises good judgment.

Responsibilities 1) Temporarily monitors the classroom when the teacher is attending meetings or when the teacher is taken from the classroom to correct a situation that may arise with a student; 2) Works with individual students or groups of students on special non-instructional projects; 3) Assists students in the use of available instructional resources, and assists in the development of instructional materials; 4) Assists teacher in routine classroom preparation duties, such as making student folders, creating charts, schedules, posters and bulletin boards at the direction of the teacher; 5) Helps the teacher to set up the classroom by distributing and/or gathering materials and setting up equipment; 6) Assists teachers in helping students prepare for dismissal; 7) May write down homework and take class notes for students; 8) Organizes and participates in group games and related activities; 9) Reads to and plays audio-visual materials for children in lower grades; 10) Attends and participates in team meetings for the development of programs to better meet individual needs; 11) Assists in physical care tasks and health-related activities as appropriate (e.g., changing diapers, toilet training, tying shoes); 12) Reinforces skills taught by speech therapist, job coach, occupational therapist/physical therapist/classroom teacher after receiving the appropriate training; 13) Provides clerical assistance (e.g., filing, typing, copy classroom material, enter material in computer and relay or respond to telephone messages); 14) Assists in proctoring and other tasks related to the administration of examinations; 15) Assists in the correction of test papers, recording of grades, maintaining of files and preparing statistical reports; 16) Assists students with behavioral/management needs; 17) Supervises students in different venues as requested (e.g., study hall, corridor, lunchroom, bus circle); 18) Maintains strict confidentiality; 19) Takes advantage of and applies knowledge gained from professional growth opportunities supportive of areas of specialization and competency; 20) Completes mandated training. Ex. Right to Know; 21) Adheres to all Board of Education and Building Policies.
