Milliman's Mountain Gulf Health Practice is looking for motivated current college students or recent graduates interested in a full-time or part-time seasonal (winter-spring) internship. Actuarial interns have the opportunity to perform data analysis to assist with consulting for various health insurance work areas, such as: Commercial / ACA, Behavioral Health, Risk Adjustment, Medicare Advantage and Part D, Medicaid, Dental, and more. This position provides opportunities for professional growth and technical skill development in the healthcare actuarial field.

The Team
Milliman's Mountain Gulf Health Practice consists of forty-eight actuarial professionals, healthcare consultants, IT, and administrative professionals. We are a group of highly self-motivated and enthusiastic individuals. Our practice has developed expertise in a variety of business areas, which means that we are always working on new and interesting challenges related to the healthcare field and the actuarial profession.
We have carefully designed a program to help interns along their career path. Through our manager program, all staff members are paired with a dedicated manager to help support and celebrate the growth of each staff member.
What You Will Do
In this role you will:
Perform analyses using spreadsheets, databases, and other resources to clean, synthesize, and analyze data and information
Communicate results to peers and project leaders
Review the work of your peers
Prepare and document project files
Assist with research and business development projects
Gain valuable experience working with health care data using a variety of software applications
Our goal is to give interns a broad range of real-life experiences and exposure to the work of consultants in our practice. A successful candidate will possess excellent technical, communication, and interpersonal skills and will be self-motivated and driven to achieve. Intellectual curiosity, teamwork, and a strong desire to learn are important drivers of success in our practice.
What We Are Looking For
Professional Qualifications
Currently enrolled and returning to, or recently graduated from an accredited University, or changing careers to the actuarial field
Working towards, or completed, a bachelor's degree in mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics, or another major with quantitative course work
At least one Society of Actuaries exam passed
Solid understanding of basic actuarial concepts
Ability to work independently and within a team
Effective communication skills, with the ability to express technical concepts verbally and in writing to diverse audiences
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Personal Qualifications

Strong desire to learn
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to learn existing processes quickly
Ability to apply knowledge and concepts to a variety of different tasks
Strong organizational abilities and time-management skills
Preferred Qualifications
Prior internship(s) in health and/or actuarial-related work experience is beneficial but not required
Exposure to programming (R, SAS, SQL, Python, VBA) is beneficial but not required
Junior or Senior standing, or recently graduated is preferred, but not required
Ability to work independently
Individual(s) must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman now or in the future.
Location
Milliman's Mountain Gulf Health Practice operates under one management group and works remotely across five locations - Denver, Houston, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco. Candidates hired into this role may work remotely anywhere in the US.

Compensation
The overall hourly range for this role is $21 - $45 per hour. A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.For candidates residing in:
Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia - $23 - $41 per hour
New York City, Newark, San Jose, or San Francisco - $25 - $45 per hour
All other states - $21 - $37 per hour
