Summary You will serve as a HEALTH PHYSICIST in the Radiation Health Division (Code 105.5) in the Radiological Control Office (Code 105) at the NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining complex dosimetry processing instrumentation and associated software and procedures for various @types of routine and unusual dosimetry occurrences. You will oversee the collection of a broad range of radiological surveys and samples necessary to assess the magnitude of the emergency and the risk to shipyard personnel and surrounding community. You will compile and examine radiological analysis data, validate equipment performance through trend analysis, analyze results to ensure they are accurate and performed in accordance with specified techniques and requirements. You will provide oversight and technical assistance for the collection of routine and special environmental samples and survey data and also review, analyze, compile and perform statistical analyses and monitor trends with this data. You will compile historical exposure records for each new radiation worker, request and record radiation exposure data, and review radiation exposure data in the medical record for completeness and accuracy. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience demonstrating detailed knowledge of the theories, principles, standards and applications of health physics and radiological controls Experience applying professional knowledge and understanding of the functions and objectives of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, Radiological Control Office, and Radiation Health Division Experience developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive radiation safety, health physics, or environmental monitoring programs in support of large-scale or high-risk industrial or naval operations Experience in applying knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Regulatory Commission's regulations, NAVSEA policies and procedures, BUMED policies and procedures, and federal, state, and shipyard regulations Experience demonstrating assembling records, tests, and examination results and extracting pertinent information from these results to complete necessary forms and logs. Experience in applying knowledge and understanding of the operating principles of naval nuclear reactors and reactor systems.
