Department Overview The respiratory care discipline at Children's is generating a new perspective with cutting-edge clinical and diagnostic services including the development of clinical treatment protocols for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. Respiratory care is provided in a collaborative environment where the clinical and technical expertise of the respiratory care staff is valued by nursing and physician professionals. Respiratory care staff are encouraged to participate in clinical and operational processes, education of peers and patients, and research activities. Respiratory care plays a vital role in Children's national recognition for patient safety and family-centered care. Respiratory therapists are involved in airway management, ventilatory support (including high frequency and NAVA), asthma education, point of care testing, cystic fibrosis disease management, and emergency respiratory interventions. We are a vital part of the rapid response team and the code team. We value teamwork, open communication, safety and respect. Position Summary Performs delegated respiratory care treatments that include small volume nebs, airway clearance and cough assist therapies as well as suctioning in medical/surgical units. The focus for the intern is patient assessments, time management, communication with patients, parents and the healthcare team as well as evaluating effectiveness of therapy modalities. A licensed lead or resource respiratory therapist works every shift to support interns. Student in good standing, enrolled in an AMA and NBRC approved Associate in Applied Science Degree Respiratory Care Program. Successfully completed the first year of a Respiratory Care didactic and clinical education or 1-year of patient care related experience. High school diploma or equivalent required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. *Upon graduation from a respiratory care program and acceptance of a respiratory therapist position at Children's Minnesota, you must provide proof of licensure submission to the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (MBMP) within 3-months. Failure to meet this timeline could result in removal from the schedule and corrective action up to termination of employment. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs. In addition to your salary, this position maybe eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay. All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of an occupational health assessment, drug screen, background investigation, and compliance with the U.S. Government Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.
