Job Description
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has openings for Security Investigators in its Investigation Bureau. In this position, under supervision, with some latitude for independent judgment and initiative, the Investigator is responsible for conducting a wide variety of criminal investigations. This is a sworn police officer position. Please note: Conduct and lead investigations involving major crimes, Identity Theft, Elder Abuse, Fraud, Financial Crimes, Domestic Violence, and Missing Persons.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Analyze crime scenes, collect and process physical and digital evidence, and develop detailed timelines of criminal events.
Prepare comprehensive investigative reports, ensuring all evidence is properly cataloged, stored, and maintained in accordance with chain-of-custody protocols.
Execute search and arrest warrants while maintaining full compliance with legal and procedural standards.
Conduct interviews with victims, witnesses, and suspects to gather intelligence and develop case leads.
Coordinate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure effective operations and information sharing.
Conduct covert surveillance operations related to narcotics, fraud, and other criminal activities.
Recover evidence, including narcotics, paraphernalia, currency, and documents, for use in prosecution.
Testify in court regarding investigative findings, observations, and evidence collection procedures.
Respond to emergencies, perform field investigations, and provide assistance in life-threatening situations when necessary.
Investigates security-related incidents, crimes, or threats.
Conducting fieldwork, consisting of surveillance and various undercover operations.
Reviewing facts to ascertain their validity.
Maintain the safety, security, and control of the building at all times.
Control access to the building and verify identification.
Prevent unauthorized access/trespassers into the building.
Screen visitors and inspect packages, briefcases, and handbags.
Complete accurate reports of emergency and non-emergency incidents by recording observations, information, and occurrences as required.
Alert management of anything suspicious and notify emergency services, if necessary.
Respond to emergency calls and incidents that require police assistance.
Assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing effective security; implement approved policies and procedures.
Use various City databases to perform background and information searches, such as: eJustice, IIS, IFCOM, Webcrims, Google, and various watchdog registries.
Lead complex investigations involving organized crime, corruption, and financial fraud.
Develop and implement investigative strategies and compliance protocols.
Supervise and train investigative staff and oversee integrity control across multiple units.
Conduct covert operations, including the use of recording devices, informants, and undercover officers.
Prepare detailed reports, manage case documentation, and maintain confidentiality.
Collaborate with prosecutors and external agencies to ensure successful case outcomes.
Perform related tasks as assigned.
In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, candidates must possess the following:
Level 1 - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and one (1) year of investigative work related to security incidents; OR High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of investigative work related to security incidents.
Level 2 - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of investigative work related to security incidents; OR High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of investigative work related to security incidents.
Level 3 - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and three (3) years of investigative work related to security incidents; OR High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of investigative work related to security incidents.
Level 4 - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and four (4) years of investigative work related to security incidents; OR High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of investigative work related to security incidents.
Must have a valid NYS driver's license.
Must pass a medical exam, drug test, psychological screening, and an intensive background check.
Preferred Requirements/Skills:
Licensed to carry a firearm.
Bilingual Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean or Spanish.
Experience conducting security-related investigations in a District Attorney's Office or municipal law enforcement agency.
Minimum (5) years in law enforcement in a supervisory role.
Minimum (10) years of experience in an Internal Affairs Bureau or Organized Crime Division.
Demonstrated expertise in compliance, integrity control, and covert operations.
Proven ability to manage sensitive and high-risk investigations.
Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
Must possess the ability and readiness to quickly learn and use various industry relevant computer software.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple short-term projects.
Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task.
Ability to interact with all levels of staff and other law enforcement agencies.

Flexibility is essential. Weekend availability may be required based on business needs.
Additional Information:
Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least one (1) year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.
Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
High school graduation and two years of full-time paid experience in police enforcement or investigative work; or
A satisfactory equivalent.
