THE POSITION
The Philadelphia County Department of Transportation is looking for a talented diesel mechanic dedicated to maintaining a fleet of equipment at optimal performance levels. We are in search of a qualified Diesel Construction and Equipment Mechanic to strengthen our maintenance team. Your skills will be essential in extending the lifespan of our highway and construction vehicles and equipment. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will be responsible for a range of analytical tasks while also performing preventative maintenance and repairs on a varied fleet that includes construction equipment, trucks, and gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles. Your duties will encompass servicing hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, along with both manual and automatic transmissions. You will also conduct state vehicle inspections for all applicable equipment, ensure work orders are completed accurately, and carefully document the time spent on each task. It is crucial to report any incidents or damage to the equipment without delay. To excel in this position, you must be adept at identifying appropriate repair procedures for heavy machinery and making necessary mechanical adjustments to ensure optimal performance. Additionally, prioritizing a safe working environment for yourself, your colleagues, and equipment operators is essential.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours vary from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, and 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Work hours are subject to change during the summer and winter seasons. Shift work, overtime, and travel are required.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
Certain positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.
Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
