Summary This position serves as a Warehouse Worker Leader located within the Receiving/Distribution area of the Logistics Service in the Veterans Affairs Health Care System located in VA Medical Center, Syracuse, New York. Responsibilities Duties include but may not be limited to: - Leads a crew to accomplish assigned projects and daily operational functions. - Ensures awareness of trade techniques and practices. - Demonstrates proper work methods and works along with others. - Provides staff with daily tasks and follows up to confirm completion. - Checks work while in progress and when finished. - Discusses with supervisor the training requirements, problems and other issues. - Ensures warehouse has needed supplies, equipment and tools for daily operation. - Receives incoming shipments and checks items against the electronic purchase orders. - Records, annotates and forwards discrepancies such as shortages and damages. - Maintains the flow of the warehouse by moving, delivering, shelving, storing and inventorying materials and equipment. - Performs other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work involves considerable walking, pushing and pulling a variety of carts and materials handling equipment. Works off loading and loading trucks, lifting products on and off shelves, handling boxes frequently weighing over 40 lbs. Required to work in storage buildings, pods, trailers and warehouses that may be hot, cold, drafty and poorly lit. Will work outdoors on docks and making deliveries in all @types of weather conditions during all seasons. Hazardous materials may be encountered in daily work activities.
