The Financial Fraud Unit is seeking a Senior Paralegal to join its dynamic team! This unit offers the opportunity to be involved in meaningful work that directly impacts the lives of Coloradoans. The Financial Fraud Unit investigates and charges complex financial crimes and has jurisdiction throughout the state of Colorado. Our team works collaboratively with multiple state and federal law enforcement partners. We are seeking a self-motivated, team-oriented paralegal looking to make an impact in this critical area.
The DOL is currently offering a sign-on bonus for new senior paralegal hires of $1,000. Eligible only to hires new to the Colorado State Personnel System
Sign-On bonuses will be paid based on the following timeline:
$500.00 - Time of hire
$500.00 - Time of certification (12 months after hire)

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Senior Paralegal position will support two teams - Insurance Fraud and Securities Fraud - within the Financial Fraud Unit. In this role, the paralegal will be crucial in managing litigation of cases and supporting attorneys with managing cases, ensuring deadlines are met, conducting legal research, and preparing legal drafts. There are three paralegals in the Financial Fraud Unit, all of whom coordinate between the unit's criminal investigators and attorneys. Responsibilities include the digital presentations before grand and petit juries, document management and control, database management, tracking of restitution, legal research, drafting of pleadings, filing of pleadings, witness and exhibits coordination at trial and coordinating the fraud referrals.
This recruitment may be used to fill other positions at the Department of Law.
Salary note: Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Salary will be paid on a biweekly basis.

Minimum qualifications are:
Three years of work experience in a paralegal capacity which included organization and management of a large amount of files, preparing drafts of legal documents, and collaboration with multiple attorneys.
OR
Paralegal certificate obtained through either an American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal studies program or an accredited institution AND one year of work experience in a paralegal capacity which included organization and management of a large amount of files, preparing drafts of legal documents, and collaboration with multiple attorneys
Note: Candidates possessing a foreign degree must submit a translation (evaluation) of their degree from an accredited institution, such as The National Association of Credential Evaluations Services in order to be given credit for the degree.
Required Competencies:
Effective oral and written communication with internal and external customers
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Strong attention to detail and organization skills
Ability to research, analyze, and compile data
Time-management skills, including the ability to multi-task and effectively manage competing priorities in order to meet tight deadlines
Ability to work well with a diverse range of customers and work collaboratively on a team
Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, if you possess any of the following specifically include the details on your application.This information will be used to assess your qualifications and may be used to determine a top group of applicants.
Experience with criminal law and prosecution of criminal offenses
Experience with trial presentation software
Experience supporting large volumes of discovery and managing and disseminating discovery
Knowledge of the litigation process
Familiarity with the grand jury process
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Experience managing and tracking a high volume of cases using case mangaement systems or tools.
Experience as a litigation paralegal, especially in financial fraud crimes/securities fraud/criminal law
Experience coordinating cross-functional teams, including, but not limited to, law enforcement and criminal investigators.
Conditions of Employment:
Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation prior to appointment.
Members of the Financial Fraud team are expected to work in-office during trial preparation and as needed. Otherwise, flexible work arrangements will be offered.
Occasional travel, including overnight travel, may be required as needed for trials and hearings.
