Position Overview
The Managing Vice President, Data, AI and Emerging Technology leads Marriott's enterprise-wide data, analytics and AI technology function, driving innovation, operational excellence, and business impact through advanced data platforms, AI solutions, and personalization capabilities. This executive is responsible for shaping and executing a cohesive Data & AI technology strategy that aligns with Marriott's enterprise goals, enabling business leaders to unlock value through scalable, secure, and high-impact data and AI products.
In addition to core data and AI leadership, the ideal candidate brings exposure and practical experience in emerging technology domains such as Quantum Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), sensor-based technologies, and Digital Twins. This expertise will enable Marriott to explore and leverage next-generation capabilities, driving innovation in operational intelligence, hotel efficiencies, and digital transformation across the enterprise. As a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, the incumbent brings exceptional executive presence and communication skills, translating complex technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives that influence strategy, performance, and transformation efforts. The Managing VP oversees high-performing teams of data engineers, AI specialists, and technology leaders, fostering a culture of innovation, talent development, and continuous improvement.
This leader ensures the delivery of advanced data and AI solutions, the development and integration of enterprise data platforms, and the regular surfacing of actionable recommendations to inform strategic planning and business operations. They champion technology best practices, promote the adoption of AI and data engineering tools, and work in extremely close partnership with the SVP, Data, Analytics & AI-holding a dotted-line reporting relationship-to ensure strategic alignment and maximize the impact of data and AI initiatives across Marriott International.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Data Science, Analytics, Engineering, or related discipline) required; advanced degree preferred.
15+ years of progressive technology experience with 10+ years leadership experience, including:
o Direct experience leading teams in defining, creating, and supporting enterprise-scale data and AI platforms.
o Experience in data, advanced analytics, AI, and personalization technologies.
o Demonstrated experience in Agile development methodologies, specifically with large-scale initiatives and geographically-distributed teams.
o Proficiency working in an Agile pod model.
o Direct management of cross-functional, sourced, and matrixed teams.
o Management of complex budgets in excess of $25-50M direct and indirect costs.
o Demonstrated thought leadership in data and AI commensurate with the scale of Marriott's enterprise platforms.
o Demonstrated success leading medium- to large-scale initiatives/transformations.
o Experience with IT outsourcing and managed services.
Skilled in prioritizing D&A initiatives based on business impact and resource availability.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to translate technical concepts for business audiences.
Ability to accomplish results through others by establishing relationships and effective controls.
Demonstrated ability to assess client needs and influence appropriate solutions.
Solid understanding of IT financial structures and corporate financial processes.
Proven ability to prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environments.
Hospitality, travel, or retail industry experience (preferred).
Knowledge of business environment, service requirements, and hospitality culture (preferred).
Key Responsibilities
Shape and execute a unified Data & AI technology strategy aligned with Marriott's enterprise goals and Technology Strategy
Lead the architecture, development, and deployment of scalable, secure, and high-impact data and AI products that are fully integrated into Marriott's broader Technology Strategy and platform capabilities.
Oversee data, advanced analytics, machine learning, and personalization technology initiatives.
Foster a culture of innovation, talent development, and continuous improvement within Data & AI teams.
Build and maintain standard tools and processes for Agile development across all client groups.
Ensure consistency and predictability in data and AI technology delivery.
Monitor projects for adherence to defined development processes and standards.
Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and Data/AI leaders to drive cross-functional alignment.
Communicate technology policy changes impacting service providers and Marriott operations.
Manage day-to-day relationships with IT teams, business leaders, and external providers.
Provide input into technology roadmaps and strategic planning for Data & AI.
Lead project reviews and ensure effective reporting to business stakeholders.
Drive timely resolution of escalated service delivery problems and minimize business impact.
Define, manage, and improve service level reporting for data and AI technology.
Ensure effective resourcing and talent development for Technology team members
Validate service provider performance and compliance with agreements.
Facilitate team and service provider compliance with standards and contracts.
Support IT governance, business strategy, and financial planning processes.
Implement and manage continuous improvement programs using industry metrics (e.g., CMMi).
Design and administer feedback processes to continually improve client satisfaction and technology outcomes.
