The School of Science and Health Sciences seeking an Adjunct Instructor to provide high-quality teaching in the Natural Sciences discipline. Hawkeye is interested in finding a knowledgeable, positive professional role model to lead our students.
As an Adjunct Instructor, you are committed to fostering a respectful and welcoming learning environment for all students. Part-time teaching assignment may be at various sites and in various formats and be held on days, evenings, and weekends. Instructors plan and guide the learning processes for students toward the achievement of curricular goals and objectives as identified and documented in course outline materials. Additional responsibilities include employing instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting course and student objectives; assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis according to department policies and procedures, and providing progress reports (evaluations and grades) as required.

Essential Job Functions
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides course instruction in areas including, but not limited to:
Anatomy & Physiology
Chemistry
Introductory or General Biology
Microbiology
Develops and prepares daily instructional plans and materials.
Uses various instructional modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid, ICN) as needed to facilitate the learning process.
Instructs at various sites as needed.
Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis, and providing progress reports as requested and required.
Active participation as a department member with a focus on student learning and facilitation discipline-related activities.
Responsible for maintaining a laboratory environment for hands-on teaching which includes dealing with external customers.
Formulates and maintains curriculum for assigned courses.
Supervises, recruits, and advises students.
Maintains cooperative relationships with the Dean, supervisors, other faculty, the program's Advisory Committee, all divisions of the College, prospective employers, and the community.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye's remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's Degree in Natural Sciences with 12 credit hours in a related science major.
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new and current technical skills and ideas.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, and staff.
Demonstrated motivation to serve students from all backgrounds and educational experiences.
Ability to provide excellent customer service, maintain student confidence and protect operational integrity.
Demonstrated ability to work with a wide array of students, faculty, staff, and the general public in a professional and personable manner.
Working Conditions
Instruction will primarily be face-to-face with anticipated hours being flexible including afternoon, evening, and occasional weekends hours.
Work is performed either in or a combination of an office setting, classroom or lab setting using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
Employment Status
Part-time, Adjunct position with wages expected to be $848 per credit hour. Anticipated hours will be flexible including afternoon, evening, and occasional weekends hours.
