How You Can Make an Impact
The Health & Safety Manager - Electric Operations will serve as the subject matter expert for overhead and underground electrical distribution work in California. This role will manage Safety Specialists assigned to oversee electric operations and will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, preventing incidents, and building strong working relationships with customer representatives. The Manager will conduct site visits, support investigations, provide corrective actions, and lead the execution of electrical safety programs aligned with Cal/OSHA regulations and CPUC General Orders.
How You Will Contribute
Manages a team of Safety Specialists assigned to oversee electric operations, ensuring field coverage and compliance oversight.
Recruits and hires; provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and identifies training needs for Electric Safety Specialists.
Provides coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities to Civil and Electric Safety Specialists on Electric related observations.
May handle or assist with discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. Conducts regular site visits to overhead and underground electrical distribution projects to verify compliance with federal, state, customer, and MGE requirements.
Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures for electric operations, including a schedule of routine jobsite audits.
Monitors and enforces compliance with company and customer safety procedures, including energized work practices, switching/tagging, grounding, and excavation interfaces.
Leads or assists in investigations of incidents and injuries; drafts comprehensive reports, performs TapRooT cause analysis, and ensures corrective actions are implemented and effective.
Builds and maintains professional relationships with customer representatives, providing timely reports and updates.
Prepares and delivers training sessions on topics such as energized work boundaries, minimum approach distances, human error prevention tools (three-way communication, stop work authority), excavation safety near energized facilities and any additional training that could be relevant to electric operations.
Drafts and maintains inspection reports and compliance documentation; ensures accurate records are retained per regulatory and customer requirements.
Tracks safety performance metrics (leading and lagging indicators) and prepares monthly reports for executive leadership and customers.
Travel as needed to various job sites and office locations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Table
Extensive knowledge of electrical safety, excavation/trenching regulations, and customer utility safety requirements.
Demonstrated experience conducting and leading incident investigations with effective corrective action follow-through.
Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in technology and equipment used in electrical safety inspections.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Ability to influence, train, and motivate team members while working collaboratively with management, utilities, subcontractors, and trades.
Valid Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record
Your Prior Experience
Minimum of 7 years of safety-related experience in electrical utility distribution (overhead and underground).
High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
Professional certifications are strongly preferred: CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional), CSP, ASP, CHST, or equivalent.
OSHA 510/500 training credential preferred.
Our Competitive Package
Pay: $130,000 -$150,000 annually
This pay range is our competitive compensation at the time of this job posting. Your pay will be determined based on experience, education, skills, and applicable knowledge.
