Schedule: Monday-Friday, Day Shift (typically 6:30am-3:00pm or 8:00am-4:30pm)
About the Role
We're seeking a Chemical / Material Analyst I to join a state environmental laboratory in Norcross, GA. This role supports testing programs that protect Georgia's air, land, and water through accurate and timely chemical analysis. The laboratory is an 80-person, multidisciplinary team conducting chemical and microbiological testing to ensure compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
As a Laboratory Scientist I, you'll perform routine wet chemistry analyses on environmental samples-primarily drinking water and surface water-and help ensure data accuracy, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards. You'll receive hands-on training, mentorship, and opportunities to grow into a permanent, benefited position.
Key Responsibilities
Perform chemical and physical tests on air, water, soil, and biological samples following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Conduct analyses using wet chemistry techniques and instrumentation such as IC and Mantech (pH, turbidity, conductivity)
Prepare, organize, and submit data packets in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments; ensure accuracy and precision in all measurements
Review and interpret data for completeness, validity, and compliance with quality standards
Assist in sample management, documentation, and method validation activities
Follow strict laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace
Participate in cross-training and demonstration of analytical proficiency before performing independent analyses
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a physical or natural science (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Materials Science)
Strong understanding of basic laboratory procedures and analytical chemistry principles
Experience conducting chemical or physical analyses in an academic or professional lab setting
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIMS preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry
Hands-on experience with wet chemistry methods and sample analysis
Knowledge of environmental compliance or quality control standards
