Transportation Engineer III:Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Transportation Engineer IV:Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Transportation Engineer V:Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or [research]. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer III:Acts as a consultant to supervisors of special maintenance crews.Assists in developing and/or monitoring budgetsAssists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.Evaluates pavement products and pavement condition data.Interprets the Utility Accommodation Policy.Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff. Makes presentations and represents TxDOT. May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional duties for a Transportation Engineer IV:Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Formulates, develops and/or monitors budgets and financial information.Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Reviews contracts and related documents for execution.May serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team members career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage.Additional duties for a Transportation Engineer V:Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for highly complex projects.Develops and supports implementation activities for new methods, procedures, and technologies.Reviews, develops and supports Standard Operating Procedures for developing, maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources; managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements.
