Job Summary and Qualifications
Responsible for performing tests and reporting results of requested Laboratory procedures and providing physicians with accurate and timely results to aid them in diagnosis and treatment of patients. Works under the supervision of the Technical Manager and the technical guidance of MT II and MT III. Complies with the Memorial Health Compliance Program, related policies and procedures and the Code of Business Practices; reports instances of perceived and actual non-compliance to Team Leader or through other reporting mechanisms.
Follows policies and procedures without personal deviation: understands principles, demonstrates skill in performing routine procedures, interprets results and takes appropriate actions when necessary. Organizes, plans, and schedules workload to achieve efficiency and report results on a timely basis according to patient needs.
Exercises judgment to determine the acceptability or rejection of results according to standards set for test, and requests assistance when needed from more experienced medical technologists or technical manager.
Abides by laboratory compliance policies and procedures.
Practices prescribed methods of collection, specimen and patient identification when receiving or collecting specimens.
Understands and demonstrates skill in appropriate methods of care for all ages of patients with whom contact is made.
Performs daily maintenance procedures on equipment as required, assists in troubleshooting of equipment as necessary to insure proper operations for high quality test performance.
Recognizes and restocks work area with supplies and reagents. Follows lab policy for receiving and dating supplies.
Maintains awareness of supply stock and informs appropriate personnel of supply shortages before they are depleted.
Adjusts to increases in workloads and stressful situations as they occur, maintaining professional demeanor and cooperative partnership with others.
Performs and records results of quality control; documents corrective actions when results are not within defined limits.
Uses only approved documents and reports any necessary document changes required to technical manager; follows established procedures for making changes to records.
Performs CAP proficiency specimens as required.
Participates in data collection for performance improvement indicators.
Maintains a neat, well-kept work area; practices infection control, i.e., hand washing and wearing personal protective equipment, for the protection of patient and self.
What qualifications you will need:
(MLS) Medical Laboratory Scientist, or (CLA) Certified Lab Assistant, or (CLT/CLS) Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist, or (MLT-State) Medical Lab Technician - State, or (MT-AAB) Medical Technologist
Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree
