Primary Purpose

The Foundation Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the Foundation Accountant with the implementation, maintenance, and management of all financial and accounting services to the COCC Foundation. The COCC Foundation is a 501©3 organization comprised of assets totaling over $35M. The Foundation Finance Assistant will also work with the Foundation Executive Director, Finance & Audit Committee, Foundation Board of Trustees, external CPA firm, and other regulatory agencies to report financial information and comply with generally accepted accounting principles, non-profit rules and regulations, and to further the mission of the Foundation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the Foundation Accountant with the maintenance of the general ledger accounting system; including: accounts receivable, accounts payable, month end journal entries, and importing and reconciling the subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.

Assist the Foundation Accountant with monthly journal entries to the general ledger.

Assist the Foundation Accountant with reconciling bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and net fund balances.

Provide administrative office and special project support to Accountant, and assist other office staff, as needed.

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

Solid knowledge and understanding of accounting principles, fund accounting, and general ledger management.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.

Ability to use software programs and database systems which include Microsoft Office Suite, email, QuickBooks, Banner-Finance, Donor database.

Ergonomic Requirements

Regular office hours are established between 9 am - 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.

Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible accounting and/or finance experience.

Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ).

Double-entry bookkeeping / solid knowledge of debits & credits.

Ability to effectively manage general ledger accounting systems.

Ability to import and export data and to develop spreadsheets in Excel.

Strong organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and ability to work independently over a wide range of accounting/finance functions.

Bachelor's degree in a related professional field.
