The Role:
General Motors is transforming the future of transportation, and the Energy & Emissions Lab Operations team is at the forefront of this change. We are seeking a highly-performing, forward-thinking Engineering Group Manager to lead our operations team with a focus on safety, quality, and flawless execution.
This position requires full-time onsite presence, with flexibility for offsite work when necessary. The EGM leads a diverse team of test operators, engineers and technicians as well as oversees support teams including quality, maintenance, software/hardware engineers and technicians.
The selected candidate will:
Translate business objectives into actionable work for teams.
Lead new processes and methods aligned with departmental goals.
Ensure emission, fuel economy, calibration, and EV testing meet global regulations for all product programs.
Play a critical role in capital project reviews for future business capability and capacity requirements.
What You'll Do:
Oversee Energy & Emissions Lab operations, ensuring continuous 24/7 testing coverage and team coordination.
Lead and guide technical teams supporting lab operations and vehicle development.
Lead Industrial Engineering team through continuous improvement projects for all areas of the lab.
Lead EVAP testing team supporting current testing and future forecasting.
Manage lab deliverables using the BPD process, ensuring alignment with GM's Vehicle Development Process.
Attain results using Business Plan Deployment (BPD) methods.
Provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams, drive adoption of new methods and initiatives.
Conduct regular team meetings, communicate GM policies, and deliver leadership and safety messages.
Support employee career development and ensure completion of required training.
Assign and balance workloads; set individual and group priorities.
Recommend staffing levels and participate in business planning and equipment meetings with software and hardware engineering teams.
Operate within budget; promote safe work habits and continuous improvement.
Foster an inclusive, innovative, and collaborative culture.
Hire, train, mentor, and develop employees; cultivate a growth mindset.
Champion GM Behaviors and Competencies; drive change to support GM's transformation.
Build and maintain positive working relationships internally and externally.

Demonstrate knowledge of GVDP/GPDP and support/promote lean principles.
Reviews and approves employee work and overtime schedules, expenses, and other work-related data.

Conducts performance interventions when necessary.
Provides timely and consistent feedback to direct employee's as appropriate.
Participates in compensation planning and administers compensation treatment.
Your Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):
Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, chemical, or industrial/manufacturing engineering preferred.
Experience leading people leaders and cross-functional teams.
Working knowledge of emissions certification, vehicle systems, and testing processes.
Familiarity with emission regulations and their impact on vehicle products.
Experience with lean engineering systems (GMS), quality systems, and strong problem-solving skills.
Experience meeting project quality, timing, and cost milestones.
Minimum 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
3+ years of engineering or lab operations experience, with 2+ years in a leadership role.
Strong understanding of emissions testing protocols and lab operations.
Proven ability to lead multi-shift, multi-discipline support groups.
Experience with GM's systems, ISO procedures, and GMS principles.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
