We see a motivated candidate for a postdoctoral research position in information science and technology. You will be working with interdisciplinary teams on basic scientific research problems using data visualization, machine learning, computational science, data management, and high-performance computing.
The Information Science and Technology Institute (ISTI) is a Laboratory-wide resource to enable and implement new ideas in information science and technology (IS&T) at the Lab. ISTI serves to foster a world-class, area-focused, results-oriented IS&T community that delivers cutting-edge, mission-oriented science research. You will work closely with ISTI to facilitate an area of interest that needs a concentrated effort to demonstrate innovative ways to master complex problems in areas including, but not limited to:

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Experience
This position requires:
PhD in computer science, data science, data visualization, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or a related field within the last five years or will have completed all PhD requirements by the commencement of appointment.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an applied interdisciplinary team on complex scientific research problems involving big data, data management, and data visualization.
Desired Qualifications:
Candidates will benefit from experience in:
Computer programming (Python, C++, etc.);
Familiarity with collecting, cleaning, analyzing data, and interpreting results;
Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal and written) well in a professional scientific @context; and
Commitment to achieving results in a complex social and organizational setting.
In addition, it is desired that the applicant to have the ability to obtain a Q-clearance. A Q clearance requires US citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.
Work Location:
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM in beautiful northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security.
The potential for a hybrid work arrangement (partially onsite/partially offsite) from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location may be available. Reporting onsite will be regularly required. Hybrid is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $97,000.
