Position: Medical Assistant
Classification: Non-Exempt
Location: Denver Office
Salary Rate:
Level 1 (Entry level up to 2 years of direct experience): $23.65 per hour
Level II (3+ years of direct experience): $25.73 per hour
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday (bi-Monthly Saturday shifts)
Bilingual premium for qualifying languages is 3.5% higher than starting salary if pass bilingual exam on first week of hire.

Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant performs a variety of basic and routine patient care and clerical duties to assist medical providers in the care and treatment of patients. The primary function is to room patients and facilitate patient provider schedule.
Essential Job Functions:
Demonstrates a high level of understanding of HIPAA, PHI and OSHA regulations
Answers and returns all calls in a timely manner; assesses callers' needs and directs to appropriate personnel when required
Schedules patient appointments in a productive and efficient manner
Schedules patient translation services as needed
Promptly and accurately updates electronic health records (EHR), including financial and demographic information
Responds to clinical triage calls
Promptly coordinates scheduling of new patient referrals, gathers necessary information, and schedules appointment accordingly
Create new patient packets
Accurately collects co-pays, deductibles and other out of pocket expenses at time of visit
Follows up with patients to reschedule any missed appointments
Assisting with prior authorizations.
Promptly schedules new and follow-up appointments..
Rooming patients, including updatingmedical history and medication list in EMR
Accurately takes and records patient vitals in EMR
Prepares patient for examinations
Provides patient education
Assists provider during exams and/or procedures
EKG set-up and testing
Spirometry set-up and testing
Removes sutures and changes dressings
Perform basic phlebotomy testing and draws
Collects and preparing laboratory specimens to include appropriate labeling
Collects throat, wound and sputum specimens and urine cultures
Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies
Prepares and administers medications and immunizations (intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous), as directed by a licensed provider
Tracks and maintains inventory of medical, lab, or office supplies and equipment
Transmits prescription refills, as directed
Must be able to work in a diverse setting with diverse populations, including persons living with HIV, the LGBTQ+ community, persons of various ethnic backgrounds, disenfranchised communities.
Participation in training related to HIV, substance use, harm reduction, trauma informed care and related issues. Cultural Competency/Sensitivity.

Medical and or Dental front office experience preferred. Must be willing to understand and practice the organization's mission, vision and core values. Experience working in a clinical setting preferred.
Education:
High School diploma or higher degree required and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Dental or Medical Assistant certificate preferred. Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred.
Software Utilized:
Experience using electronic health records and general billing knowledge required. Experience working with basic office and database computer programs, including familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint and the internet.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Basic knowledge of HIV, STIs, PrEP and other prevention methods. Ability to successfully resolve difficult conversations and/or situations. Cultural Competency/Sensitivity. Excellent communication, client relations and management skills. Highly organized and detail oriented. Ability to comprehend established office routines and policies. Ability to keep financial records and perform mathematical tasks. This position requires personal and professional accountability; self-management and initiative; dedication to quality improvement, professional integrity and research ethics and cultural competency. Must demonstrate accuracy, efficiency and excellent organizational skills. Must demonstrate effectiveness in the following areas: task management; teamwork; time management; and communication with teams, managers, clients, and company consultants.
Material and Equipment Directly Used:
Works with standard office equipment including computer work station, printers, copiers, scanners and fax machine. Works with word processing software, spreadsheet applications, and presentation software. Communicates with clients and vendors using the telephone, e-mail, the Internet, and fax.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
Works in an office environment. May travel via automobile or airplane to offsite locations or for CHN business. Must have and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license and auto insurance on personal vehicle. Works with standard office equipment including computer work station, printers, copiers, scanners and fax machine. Communicates with clients and vendors using the telephone, e-mail, the Internet, and fax. Requires clear speaking ability and the ability to use a telephone for extended periods.
