Summary The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer for Environmental Management Service Sanitation Section at the Waco VA Medical Center. Responsibilities Supervisory Duties-assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Develops performance standards and evaluates work performance of subordinates. Effects minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommendation other actions in more serious cases. Develops and maintains effective inter-service and inter-personal relationships with other key staff officials and coordinates the program with other internal activities. Establishes and maintains structural employee's training program to supplement that received on-the-job. Plans and directs basic hospital housekeeping programs that are designed to maintain visual and bacteriological cleanliness. Hospital Housekeeping Management Duties-Functions as an Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer with responsibilities for environmental sanitation, waste management, recycling program and other related functions. Required to perform the full range of duties including training subordinates, coordinating time/motion studies and accomplishing routine reassignment of a fixed staff with unusual workloads. Adaptability and flexibility are essential in this position. Knowledgeable of the Policies and Procedures of Environmental Management Service to effectively anticipate the needs of the Service and is able to perform independently within the scope of policies and guidelines set forth by the section chief and the health care facility. Required to understand complex and written instructions, policies, environmental laws and regulations from such organizations as the Department of Veterans Affairs, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Environmental Protection Agency, etc. Housekeeping Program Planning and Implementation- Develops and implements organizational structures and operating plans and procedures to achieve programs goals, monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of operations within the established framework. Determines the need for and allocation of resources, Coordinates program efforts with other internal activities, and program management officials at the headquarters level. Communicates agency and local hospital policies and priorities throughout the hospital housekeeping department. Coordination of Hospital Housekeeping Services- Coordinates, controls, and directs housekeeping programs operations. Provides advisory services to all level of management and to all hospital departments regarding the requirements and resolution of substantive housekeeping problems and services provided. The hospital environment has a significant impact on the administrative complexity of the position. Other Duties as assigned. OR : Experience in two or more of the following areas, or other work related to the position to be filled: Experience that demonstrates a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control, and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization, and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment. Experience in laundry and linen management. Experience in interior design management. Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition. OR Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals. GS 11 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing technical and administration work involving the managing, administering, operating, or providing supportive services to other programs and services within CTVHS related to the operation and safety of the CTVHS, Waco location. Creates, develops, coordinates, direct and manages a hospital housekeeping program that emphasizes the maintenance of environmental sanitation with acceptable level of bacteriological as well as visual cleanliness; plans, coordinates, and supervises hospital housekeeping functions such as Medical Center Sanitation and Pest Control; Plans for and directs the provision of housekeeping services for the hospital facility; determines long-range, intermediate, and short-range program goals and policies; develops and implements organization structures and operating plans and procedures to achieve program goals, monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of operations with the established framework.
