Responsibilities The nurse (RN) provides competent, evidence-based care on the Inpatient Mental Health (MH) and/or Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP) or as assigned. Independently provides patient-centered and recovery-oriented care, milieu management, and maintains self-awareness while caring for patients living with MH conditions. Proficient in the care of Veterans diagnosed with a mental health and/or substance use disorder. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care with consideration of cultural characteristics, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values and previous experiences. Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, and patient self-management after discharge. Facilitate shift reports, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups; use therapeutic communication techniques, practice de-escalation techniques, and utilize recovery-oriented language. Actively participates in MH interdisciplinary treatment team, MH Environment of Care rounds, and psychiatric emergencies, reports and addresses safety concerns, and documents nursing assessments, nursing plan of care, patient safety observations, and environmental safety rounds according to facility policy. Assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization. Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient. Integrates MH knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex situations. Validates understanding of the rationale for care processes and decisions. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency.
