Job Description
This position provides maintenance and repair services to Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) vehicles and equipment. This position provides a full range of maintenance, repair, and service activities on heavy equipment and prepares work orders and cost/materials estimates using computerized programs. This position provides mobile service to the Detroit Maintenance Garage as needed.
Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more (e.g., heavy-duty trucks) when performing maintenance and repair activities.
The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry(8)level through the maximum rate at the experienced (E10)level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Four years of experience assisting skilled trades people in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, including two years equivalent to a Heavy Equipment Mechanic 9.
Alternate Education and Experience
Possession of an associate degree in Heavy Duty Truck/Heavy Equipment Repair may be substituted for two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment.
Completion of 12 semester (18 term) credits in one or more of the following coursework areas: heavy duty truck, heavy equipment repair, diesel engines, math, or physics may be substituted for one year of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment.
Two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the repair and maintenance of automobiles may be substituted for one year of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment.

Possess a Commercial Learner's Permit (CPL) is upon appointment to the position. Continuing employment requires possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Group A with either an N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions which must be obtained within 12 months of the date of hire into the position and must be maintained throughout employment in the position.
