Cook Job Description

This is an hourly paid position. A Cook, or Line Cook, is responsible for preparing ingredients, to interpret meal orders, producing meals at the correct temperature, and cleaning their workspace throughout the day to follow health and safety guidelines. Cooks follow recipes consistently, make adjustments based on customer requests, communicate with wait staff and prepares an attractive presentation for each meal. Cooks are responsible for delivering food that is not only delicious and cooked to the specifications of the customer but that is safe and fresh as well. Cooks use their culinary knowledge and background to learn the details of each menu item, prepare multiple dishes simultaneously to serve large parties, help stock inventory, organize cooling units, and communicate with other kitchen staff to deliver dishes to customers in a timely manner.

Excellent organizational, time management and multitasking skills

Check daily needs for all food needed for your shift. Requisition food is needed and report any food shortages to Supervisor.

Operate kitchen equipment such as steamers, ovens, grills, and fryers

Assumes 100% responsibility for quality of products served. Accountability for the dishes they prepare measuring up to the expectations of management and customers alike.

Checks the quality and freshness of ingredients. Properly handles, stores, and rotates all food products.

Coordinate preparation work with the other cooks regarding daily specials and features.

Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures, including safe temperatures at which ingredients must be kept and how food must be prepared to avoid foodborne illness.

Familiarity with allergen preparation and cooking needs.

Knows and complies consistently with our standard portion sizes, precise recipes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures.

Stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period.

Portions food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications. Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients

Accommodate guests' special requests

Keen understanding of industry-standard best cooking and preparation practices including food storage methods and knowledge of basic knife skills.

Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area including handling utensils, tables, shelves, grills, fryers, and refrigeration equipment.

Follows proper plate presentation for all dishes.

Occasionally serve food

Effective communication skills and constant communication with Prep Cook staff

Assists in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed.

Execute opening and closing procedures properly and follows checklists for kitchen stations.

Take out the trash and maintains a clean and sanitary kitchen area including sweeping and mopping floors.

Ensure that all equipment is shut off before going off duty and all stations are broken down and clean.

Assists washing dishes and other cleaning duties when necessary.

Communicate with their direct manager to discuss inventory, staffing needs, and quality control.

Ensures that all incoming truck orders are put away and stored in their proper areas.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the manager-on-duty.

Cook skills and qualifications

Prior restaurant experience is preferred but not required. Certified in proper food handling, typically through a ServSafe Certification is desirable. Ability to work as part of a team. Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of other people, such as waitstaff, dishwashers, manage
