GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The park is home to unique archaeological features and abundant wildlife, and serves as a hub for access to thousands of acres of public land in the adjacent Big Horn Mountains.
Your daily duties will include assisting the Superintendent with the protection and enhancement of the natural and cultural resources of Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site through planning, performing, and directing grounds and facilities maintenance, equipment maintenance and repair, conducting interpretive programs, and assisting with general public safety of the site.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
Maintenance- Coordinate all necessary site maintenance, including identifying and prioritizing work, purchasing supplies and materials, assisting with budgeting, planning, and operation of the site's potable drinking water system and irrigation systems.
Routinely inspect the grounds, facilities, and equipment to identify those areas that require maintenance, repair, and improvement.
Work with headquarters staff, the Central Construction Office, and staff from other sites to assist with special projects when necessary.
Perform routine and preventative maintenance of buildings, grounds, facilities, small engines, and mechanical equipment.
Utilize specific skills while performing carpentry work, mowing, irrigation, painting, plumbing and electrical work, landscaping, and janitorial duties.
Utilize specific skills while repairing small engines and mechanical infrastructure.
Perform annual building inspections and accurately report findings.
Personnel- Assist in overseeing seasonal staff, including routine daily work direction and prioritization, assignment of work, and direction of work on special maintenance projects.
Ensure monthly time sheets, fee reports, and maintenance logs are completed accurately and on time.
Receive feedback from seasonal staff to determine maintenance needs and prioritization.
Customer Service- Provide exceptional customer service, internally and externally.
Assist the visiting public with information and directions as needed.
Public Safety - Perform routine public safety inspections, respond to emergency weather, fire, and medical situations; and provide support and assistance to responding public safety agencies.
Report all rule and regulation violations and safety hazards to the superintendent.
Interpretation - Conduct and assist with the interpretation of the site's history, including providing guided tours and interpretive hikes, brochure and exhibit development, and special events.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with two (2) or more years of experience in grounds and facilities maintenance, equipment maintenance and repair, and conducting interpretive programs.
KNOWLEDGE:
Skilled in a variety of tasks associated with the repair, construction, and maintenance of buildings, facilities and grounds.
Skilled in the operation and maintenance of all @types of light to heavy equipment and light to construction vehicles.
Knowledgeable of and able to demonstrate methods and practices of park facility and grounds maintenance.
Able to perform a variety of physical and strenuous maintenance management tasks.
Skilled in personnel management and interpersonal relations.
Able to professionally and effectively communicate with supervisor and other staff members, the visiting public, constituent groups, and other agencies.
Knowledge of recreational park management and planning.
Able to lead by example and display a positive, productive, and cooperative attitude.
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of potable water and irrigation systems.
Able to obtain and maintain DEQ water certification requirements and perform water testing and record-keeping requirements.
Knowledge of natural and cultural resource interpretation standards and techniques, and the ability to obtain and maintain National Association for Interpretation Certified Interpretive Guide status.
Knowledge of public safety and emergency management techniques.

Education:
Associate's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in parks maintenance)
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in parks maintenance)

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions
Must be willing to work some weekends and holidays
Normal days off may not be Saturday/Sunday
NOTES:

Maintain a valid driver's license.
