Summary The Medical Director in Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) reports to and serves as a key clinical resource for the CBOC Service Chief, Western North Carolina VA Health Care System (WNCVAHCA) CBOC provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the CBOC clinical programs to ensure achievement of the clinical, research and education goals Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Duties include but are not limited to the following: The Medical Director, provides oversight and administration of all aspects of the CBOC's clinical services, including any research and guidance/training for residents and trainees who may be assigned to the CBOC. In addition, the Medical Director is expected to perform direct patient care within his/her clinical specialty. The Medical Director supervises the CBOC's section chiefs (if applicable) and other staff aligned under the Medical Director's office to include nurses, administrative staff, allied health professionals, and advanced practice professionals in the services provided at the CBOC. The Director has direct responsibility for primary care, mental health, audiology, optometry, laboratory, social work, and matrixed responsibility for logistics of other clinical services residing within the CBOC. Customer Service: Bases planning on patient and staff feedback and projected needs. Plans the provision of services with a patient centered vision to enhance patient education and shared decision making. Establishes a customer-oriented culture and promotes hiring of persons who fit that culture. Actively identifies and encourages the implementation of best practices in customer service. Breaks barriers to resolve problems and complaints independently at the lowest level. Shares resources in order to provide services to customers effectively and efficiently. Quality Improvement: Serves as the CBOC's lead provider for quality improvement initiatives. Works with the clinical services to ensure compliance with standards issued by VACO and accrediting and regulatory groups such as TJC, OIG, GAO, CAP, and OSHA. Directs the continuous measurement and improvement of the quality of care provided by the services. Plans, coordinates, and ensures high quality care through utilization of multiple quality measurement tools. Improves patient outcomes through the implementation of strategies such as clinical practice guidelines This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Physician Assistant Basic Requirements Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~ Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Physician Assistant-III (PA-III) Experience and Education. PAs at the PA-III grade are at the full performance level and lead and organize patient care independently, practice within multi-disciplinary teams, and coordinate all aspects of patient care across the health care system. They utilize advanced clinical knowledge and judgment in decision-making and evaluating outcomes. They function as experts in clinical practice and/or in areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities, may serve as mentors for transitioning PAs, and may provide training for health care students. Individuals can demonstrate the KSAs for the full performance level by: i. Three years of successful practice as a PA.OR ii. Successful completion of a PA post-graduate residency program sponsored by VHA Office of Academic Affiliations or other postgraduate residency programs accredited by VA, ARC-PA, U.S. Armed Forces, or another accrediting agency and one year of professional practice as a PA. OR iii. A doctoral degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and one year of professional practice as a PA.
