What You Will Do
The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality (ALDESHQ) exists to support and enable the Laboratory's mission while protecting workers, the public, and the environment. Our role isn't to say "no," but to partner with you in finding safe and effective ways to accomplish the task at hand.
The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division works to:
Identify and control workplace hazards
Prevent injuries and illnesses
Develop policies and programs for biological, chemical, and physical hazards
Provide technical guidance and maintain centralized data
Drive continual improvement in workplace safety and health
Address and manage safety concerns
Within OSH, the Plutonium Production Support (OSH-PPS) group is seeking an Industrial Hygiene & Safety Team Leader. In this role, you will:
Lead a team of Industrial Hygiene and Safety professionals who provide field support at Technical Area (TA) 55 and Chemistry and Waste Facilities (CWF) facilities.
Manage and mentor deployed IH/S professionals and technicians as they evaluate situations, assess risks, and assist customers in meeting institutional safety requirements.
Develop and implement cost-effective safety solutions, ensuring compliance and promoting best practices.
Oversee tactical execution to ensure operational excellence, continuous improvement, and high-quality customer service.
Maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders while building the team's capabilities to support LANL's mission success.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Supervisory or technical lead experience in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
Proven ability to interpret, implement, and oversee Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene professionals and technicians providing field support.
Strong leadership skills with a track record of building teams, setting objectives, directing staff, and achieving milestones.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement strategic and tactical goals that align with organizational vision.
Experience applying risk-based decision-making in safety and operational @contexts.
Innovative problem-solving skills with a history of delivering measurable improvements through metrics, training, and performance-enhancing initiatives.
Effective communication skills with the ability to engage both leadership and direct reports clearly and thoroughly.
Commitment to high standards of conduct, operational formality, and achieving excellence in Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs.
Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Strong understanding of Department of Energy (DOE) requirements, including 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety and Health Program and Integrated Safety Management (ISM).
Knowledge of LANL and DOE/NNSA missions, as well as LANL management systems and requirements in areas such as personnel, budgeting, procurement, and safety.
In-depth knowledge and experience implementing Industrial Hygiene and/or Occupational Safety programs, policies, and procedures in research, development, production, and construction environments.
Active Q clearance.
Training/Certifications: Professional certification in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) and/or the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), preferred.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
