The right candidate must have problem solving skills, the ability to
think on your feet, be aware of your surroundings, possess customer
service skills, integrity, honesty, remain factual--have the ability to
separate fact from feeling. Must be 21 or older for insurance reasons,
and have no felonies. Position requires responsible field work in the
enforcement of the City of Great Bend Animal Ordinances and Barton
County Resolutions, to educate the importance of such laws. Animal
Control Officers will know and understand animal ordinances for the City
of Great Bend and Barton County Resolutions. Officers must have basic
knowledge of State animal regulations such as mandatory hold periods for
strays and quarantines. A working relationship is required between the
Barton County Health Dept, BTCO Sherriff\'s Dept and the GB Police Dept.
Will require to work on-call basis and must be reachable at all times.
Officers will be required to maintain files and complete written reports
in which may result in appearing in municipal or county courts. Officers
will be familiar with City Attorney. Drive 3/4 ton F250 pickup, 4 week
drive with chassis animal box. Animal Control Officers are to maintain
cleanliness of the vehicle and dog box as well as schedule and take
vehicle for regular oil changes and maintenance checks. Responds to
animal complaint calls and routinely patrols the City of Great Bend in
regards to unleashed, unlicensed, vicious, diseased, injured or stray
animals. Officers will be required to utilize capture equipment and
maintain safety for everyone. Officers will use 2-way radios and know
basic 10-code language and with Barton County Communications with regard
to confidential information. Captures and impounds animals running at
large, unwanted or which are reported to be rabid. Animal Control
Officers will/may assist in destroying diseased, injured or unwanted
animals.
