Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy is in search of two Assistant Directors of Career Services. The Heinz College encompasses the School of Public Policy and Management and the School of Information Systems and Management, offering a unique academic journey. Students at the college are trained to analyze data meticulously, harness the potential of IT, and drive transformation in managerial and policy environments.
Seeking individuals who thrive in a fast-paced setting, valuing dedication, honesty, and enthusiasm. You will be pivotal in ensuring smooth operations at Heinz College's Career Services office, leading process improvements for peak efficiency.
In the position of Assistant Director, you are responsible for delivering career development counseling and advice to Heinz College graduate students and alumni.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Delivering career development counseling, guidance, and mentorship to Heinz College graduate students and alumni
Assisting the Associate Director of Employer Relations with identifying and soliciting employers to increase employment opportunities for students
Working together with the Career Services team to coordinate workshops, career-related activities, and events
Partnering with the Career Services team to refresh student tools for career advancement
Maintaining detailed, confidential student records and using accurate judgment when sharing confidential information
Supporting team with data management and outcome reporting for assigned programs/students
You should demonstrate:
Advising and mentoring students on job/internship searches and professional development
Proven high-level of customer service orientation
Ability to foster and work well in a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Proficiency at prioritizing projects and meeting deadlines, maintaining accurate and detailed records, and maintaining strict confidentiality over all information
Astute decision-making skills and accurately assess alumni and student potential to make sound recommendations for job search strategies
Proficient in using computer programs like Handshake, Excel, and Adobe for employment data
Able to travel domestically to support student programming, employer treks, and other various alumni events
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree is required
Minimum of one to three years of related experience in student services or customer/employer-facing roles such as career services, student counseling, student programming in a university setting, recruitment or employer relations, or related field.
Knowledge of employment markets, hiring trends, and marketing methods
Experience developing potential employer contacts is a plus
A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity. Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in-office presence 3 days a week.
