Summary:
The certified medical assistant I provides direct and in-direct patient care under clinical direction of the provider they are working with and the office leadership within a medical office setting. Performs duties such as routine intake of patients which includes taking vital signs and chart prep, performing point of care testing as appropriate, and assuring patients understand their plan of care and instructions. May also be required to transport patients between hospital departments. They will also be required to answer phone messages, propose orders when there is not a protocol to support, and assure providers are made aware when there are outstanding tasks on their desktops/message center that they must complete.
Responsibilities:
Clinical
Properly collect and understand the required vital signs, screening questions.
Properly gather a history and reason for visit.
Ensure a complete medication reconciliation is completed at each visit.
Perform venipuncture, label and deliver lab specimens, immunizations, and prepare patient for procedure.
Provides care in accordance with the patient's plan of care.
Administrative Assisting
Document all aspects of patient care in a timely manner on both paper medical records and the electronic medical record
Manages clinical desktop to ensure timely communication with patients, specialists and medication refills.
Communication & Customer Service
Communicates and interacts with patients and families, providers, peers and other health care members to maximize successful outcomes and maximize function of the unit.
Medical Law & Ethics
Maintains a safe environment complying with NLH policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.
Patient Care Coordination & Education
Facilitate patient compliance (e.g. continuity of care, follow up, medication compliance) to optimize health outcomes.
Other
May perform other duties upon request and with proper training and competency documented.
Other Information:
Certification or Registration from a national Medical Assisting Organization.

Education
Required High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED)Certification (CMA) or Registered (RMA) from an approved national medical assisting body.
