Accounting Manager-Fixed Assets (hybrid)
Location: Columbus, OH or Merrillville, IN (Hybrid - 3 days/week in office)

Job Summary
To effectively manage financial accounting activities for designated companies. Directs and oversees the asset accounting team including maintaining the asset accounting records of the Company in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, the company's internal controls over financial reporting and prescribed state regulations. Partners with state regulatory teams to successfully support regulatory filings and analyses. Provides asset accounting guidance, advice and recommendations to accounting, finance, operations and regulatory leadership regarding financial accounting matters.
Essential Functions
Ensures accuracy and completeness of financial books and financial results
Responsible for managing the asset accounting financial closing for subsidiary companies
Manages and reviews all asset accounting activities, both internal and external, for the Company in accordance with required internal and external reporting deadlines
Provides accounting guidance to business stakeholders and informs decision makers of accounting implications of transactions
Performs financial statement analysis and confirms variance explanations to Controller, Financial Reporting, FP&A and external auditors
Updates, monitors and directs testing of internal controls, as necessary, in order to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
Interacts with management, consolidation accounting, financial planning, state financial and regulatory staffs, internal and external auditors, and other NiSource companies to identify and support accounting issues
Assures compliance with system policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles and applicable regulatory standards
Demonstrates leadership through functional knowledge and personnel skills and actively develops team members
Coordinates, prepares and/or reviews testimony, responses to interrogatories relating to asset accounting issues, regulatory reports, etc., as well as overseeing compilation of historic and pro-forma rate filing data.
Manages team of skilled analysts providing coaching, mentoring and skill development (includes union employees)
Oversees project initiatives as directed by leadership ensuring alignment of resources, timelines and outcomes for asset accounting team
Required Qualifications For Position
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
5+ years' experience working in the accounting field
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Strong analytical skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to analyze problems/issues and identify solutions
Ability to effectively manage simultaneous priorities
Ability to be self-sufficient and self-motivated
Demonstrated ability to coach, develop and lead a team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Excel
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
Experience in public utility accounting, finance and the regulated utility environment
Experience with PowerPlant system
Master's Degree MBA
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Upon Hire

Salary Range*:
$110,200.00 - $165,300.00
*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience , as well as internal pay equity .
