Primary Purpose: -The Animal Control Officer (ACO) and the backup Animal Control Officer are responsible for taking any complaints/requests received by the shelter, whether the complaint/request is from local law enforcement, the public, or personal observation. The ACO is responsible for animal care, investigative and administrative work in the enforcement of state and federal statutes relating to the control and regulation of domestic animals. Responsibilities/Job Description: 1. The ACO will familiarize themselves with the city ordinances with MHS contracts 2. The ACO will have the authority to seize dangerous and potentially dangerous dogs in accordance with MN statutes 347.5 and access penalties 3. Work with the direction of the Chief of Police and the Sheriff Department 4. The ACO will patrol in accordance with the agreements of MHS contracts and document each patrol. Documentation will include, but not limited to date, time, mileage, actions, intakes. 5. The ACO will be on call to call out emergencies. If the ACO is not available, this responsibility will be shifted to the Shelter Administrator 6. The ACO should maintain records of licenses and conduct annual checks within the city s contracts 7. The ACO will be responsible for maintaining a vehicle log/report related to safety, routine maintenance, and operation of the company vehicle 8. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as needed 9. Compile reports, complete records, and forms such as daily activity sheets, quarantine, and investigative reports. 10. Provide information to the public regarding licensing, vaccinations, euthanasia, rabies control, pet owner responsibilities, spaying, neutering, and adoptions 11. Conduct investigation in response to public complaints of violations of animal regulatory ordinances 12. Perform animal care duties such as feeding, monitoring sick or dangerous animals, segregating and isolating animals when necessary 13. Cleans and disinfect kennel areas, vehicles, and equipment, with the office duties as receiving animals brought to the shelter by the public and releasing impounded animals to the public 14. Assist with the removal of nuisance and/or dangerous wildlife when appropriate. If unable, provide a phone number for the person to contact for help. 15. Become proficient in Shelter Manger for the intake and adoption of animals 16. Provide assistance with fundraising and volunteering for activities as needed
