Construction Materials Testing Laboratory Supervisor (Technician IV) - Tacoma, Washington

What are we looking for?

The Construction Materials Testing Laboratory Supervisor (Technician IV) is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory testing and lab supervisory functions.

Salary & Benefits Information

The annual salary range for this position is $60K - $90K. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

Maintain and develop laboratory testing programs and enter data gathered from laboratory tests into reports

Perform and oversee QA testing in the lab

Perform laboratory equipment calibrations and keep track of equipment maintenance

Physical laboratory testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with applicable ASTM procedures

Operate testing equipment and conduct geotechnical and construction materials laboratory testing, (example: Atterberg Limits, Sieve Analysis, Unconfined Compressive Strength, CBR, Swell, Standard and Modified Proctors, etc.) and provides assessment of data through reporting

Utilize drawings, specifications and diagrams.

Technical competence to interpret and effectively communicate test procedures, specifications and results with team members, customers, consultants, and specifiers

Complete knowledge and understanding of all equipment, test methods / methodology and applicable specifications associated with areas of responsibility

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent

Minimum of 5 years' experience working in a construction material testing lab

Must understand ASTM standards, AASHTO, and USACE documentation ACI, FDOT, ICC and/or NICET level 1 certifications required to manage an AASHTO accredited laboratory

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and basic computer knowledge

Moderate lifting required as part of day-to-day job functions

Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance

Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound

Ability to kneel and squat occasionally

Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time

Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)

Ability to climb occasionally

Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

Associate degree from a technical or four-year school

Lab Supervisory Experience

ACI Certifications - Concrete Strength, Aggregate Base, Aggregate Testing

Nuclear Density Gauge Operator Certificate

WABO Lab Supervisor Certificate

NICET Lab Certifications

WAQTC Lab Certifications
