About this Job
The Accounting Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of the university and reports directly to the Bursar. This position is responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including student account analysis, reconciliations, and journal entries. Serves as a resource to students as well as campus faculty and staff on university accounting policies and procedures. Is detail oriented and maintains accurate electronic and paper records. This summary is not intended to be a comprehensive or all-inclusive description of duties and responsibilities. The Accounting Coordinator is a full-time, unclassified, exempt, 12 month position.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field.

2 years experience in professional accounting or finance.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous university experience or experience with a state agency employer.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proven premium customer service experience
Solid understanding of finance, accounting principles, and cost control procedures.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with pivot tables and complex functions/formulas.
Ability to handle detailed, high-volume work with varying time constraints.
Ability to interpret and apply accounting standards and government regulations.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
Self-starter with strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals at all levels and the ability to keep leadership informed of progress and issues.
Job Duties and Other Information
Position Duties:
Student Financial Advising inclusive of the Nelnet Tuition Financing Plan for a student population of 10,000+
Regular reconciliation of Nelnet Tuition Financing Plan with LSUS student accounting system
Monthly Student Invoicing support and analysis regarding various LSUS Partnership Agreements
Review student/customer credit balances to determine refund eligibility
Provide back up support for front-facing student interactions
Research and resolve questions from students related to billing, outstanding balances, tuition payment plans, and 1098-T's
Manage accounts receivable collections
High level military interaction, including military tuition exemption, tuition assistance, and submitting invoices to AI portal
Perform other duties and assists with special projects as assigned

Physical and Environmental Demands
Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
