About the Opportunity :
PERA is currently seeking an Accounting Technician in the Account Information Management Division.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide one-on-one technical direction, training, and guidance to participating employers via phone and email.
Analyze salary, contribution and employment data reported to PERA's Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution plans by participating employers
Reconcile discrepancies in member and employer records, salary deduction reports, and payments.
Ensure compliance with PERA contribution and plan program requirements as mandated by law, policy and procedures.
During the initial three (3) month training period, this position will be required to report in-office at PERA's office building in St. Paul, Minnesota three (3) days per week. If training is successfully completed, this position is eligible for a hybrid telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) schedule with a requirement to be in-office at least one (1) day per week with an occasional requirement to be in-office two (2) days per week, based on agency and department needs and other dependencies.
Candidates located outside the state of Minnesota and more than 50 miles from PERA's St. Paul office are not eligible to telework and would be required to report to the office full-time.
Minimum Qualifications

Experience must include the following:
Customerservice and languageskillssufficienttoprovidetactful,prompt,courteous,andaccuratereporting informationtocustomers onthephone,in-person, e mailorwrittencorrespondence with a focus on patience and relationship building.
Ability to identify and explain errors in data entry to external customers in a manner that clarifies the need for accuracy, and supports training to assist in preventing future errors.
Math skills sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts, and accounting procedure skills sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports.
Ability to use an electronic record-keeping system to accurately enter, maintain and report on data, reconcile, detect and correct data inconsistencies, and update information for governmental or private agencies related to pensions or banking.
Knowledge of and the ability to use spreadsheet and word processing software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, to create spreadsheets and other documents.
Verbal and written communication skills sufficient to provide effective prompt, courteous, and accurate information to internal and external customers.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Minnesota statues and policies that govern pension funds, member enrollment, and contributions.
Experience processing payroll, accounting or bookkeeping.
Two years of customer service experience as described above.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasional lifting and carrying of articles such as file folders, ledgers, and small office equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one that involves sitting, a certain amount of movement is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
