Summary The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is unique in the size and the scope of its work. It serves as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. On the local side, AUSAs assigned to the Superior Court Division prosecute cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicides. On the federal side, AUSAs assigned to the Criminal Division prosecute federal crimes. The Civil Division further defends the United States in civil suits brought in the District of Columbia. Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for handling a variety of post-trial matters in the Special Proceedings Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia. Typical work assignments will include: - Uses databases and communication links to process criminal cases and performs legal research for the Division. - Reviews incoming materials to determine correspondence and legal documents needed and obtains the necessary information for the file. - Ensures computerized tracking systems, databases, communication links, software, and hardware is installed, updated, working properly, and reports problems to the Information Technology Section. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To be qualified for the GS-09 Legal Administrative Specialist, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal Service; or a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or a combination of specialized experience and education. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is conducting research and analysis of statues, legislative intent, judicial precedents, rules, regulations, precedents, and laws and is defined by preparing legal documents and summarizing relevant legal precedents; collecting and maintaining a system of record; establishing rapport with agents, witnesses, and other agencies to conduct interviews and gather information; utilizing automated legal research tools and personal computer based software to gather, file, and retrieve information to create charts and graphs; coordinating availability and transportation for witnesses; providing legal support to attorney's by conducting interviews, analyzing data, summarizing facts, drafting responses, maintaining case files, obtaining necessary records, and filing documents in a timely manner.
