RN, Medical Oncology

Are you a compassionate RN looking to make a meaningful impact in oncology care? Join our dedicated team at UPMC Western Maryland where you'll rotate through all nursing positions in medical oncology, including performing patient assessments, iv access, subcutaneous port maintenance and lab draws, injections, infusions and chemotherapy administration. This nurse will also work directly with the providers and taking care of patients being seen in the clinic.

This is a full time position that will work mostly 8 hour shifts, with a few 10 hour shifts thrown in depending on where they are rotating. The start of the earliest shift is 6:30 am, with the clinic typically closing at 6:30 pm, depending on patient volume. Rotating weekend and holiday shifts are required, given that our facility is open 7 days a week! Weekends and holidays are typically a lightened patient schedule.

The final candidate will be placed in the appropriate title based on education and experience. The rate shown above is for our Senior BSN educated RNs, however the minimum hiring rate for this position is $33.75 per hour.

Responsibilities:

Apply the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.

Formulate daily goals and individualized plans of care in partnership with patients.

Demonstrate critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues.

Communicate effectively with care providers to advocate for changes in patient care and unit practices.

Maintain comprehensive patient documentation to support caregiver communication.

Incorporate national professional standards and organizational goals to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

Build compassionate, healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

Participate actively in unit-based shared governance and quality improvement initiatives.

Support change and transition processes to improve care and the practice environment.

Serve as a collaborative and responsive member of the care team.

Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to change.

Apply adult learning principles in patient, family, student, and staff education.

Provide detailed teaching to support patient transitions across levels of care.

Support the development of students and new staff; may serve as a preceptor.

Foster an environment of open dialogue, inquiry, and continuous development.

Develop and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally.

Demonstrate cultural awareness and promote healthy peer relationships.

Model safe work hours, effective time management, and a healthy lifestyle.

Communicate workplace safety hazards to peers and management.

Utilize research and evidence-based practice to support clinical care improvements.

Identify and discuss opportunities for quality improvement during multidisciplinary rounds.

Take personal responsibility for improving patient satisfaction and care quality.

Perform duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum of 6 months experience in a clinical setting.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of various age groups, as specified by the assigned unit.

Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan.

Ability to assess patient data and interpret information to identify age-specific care requirements.

Familiarity with departmental policies and procedures for delivering patient care.

Strong ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary/support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

Capacity to work effectively in complex environments with multiple and changing priorities.

Proficiency in handling specialized equipment.

Excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills related to patient care.

Ability to lead others in applying the nursing process.

Required mobility and visual manual dexterity.

Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Registered Nurse (RN)

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
