Summary You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC LEADER in the CRANE MAINTENANCE DIVISON, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will report the status of work and ensure condition of equipment for turnover to supervisor by oral or written communication. You will explain proper work methods and instructions in detail to staff. You will ensure the equipment being repaired meets cleanliness and safety standards. You will coordinate with supervisors and operators and give oral or written status reports and turnovers. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: Leading a group of subordinates to accomplish daily work-related functions of the heavy mobile equipment trade. Applying trade skills for overhauling and repairing heavy pieces of construction, material handling, and weight handling equipment.
