Summary The incumbent is expected to accomplish all duties related to stocking, delivering, inventory, inspections, assembling ward orders, prescription assembly, controlled substances distribution, sterile compounding (including hazardous drugs), unit-dose drug packaging, dispensing, distribution, and any other function related to pharmaceutical practices. This position is located within the Inpatient Pharmacy, Vancouver. Ensures outdated, deteriorated, and damaged medications are disposed of in the appropriate pharmaceutical waste containers or placed inside the return bin for credit processing according to policy and procedures for reverse distribution. Manufactures products requiring compounding including chemotherapy and NIOSH medications, whether made in large batches for more than one patient or in small batches to fill a single prescription or drug order. Interprets physician orders, selects, and measures appropriate ingredients, mixes ingredients in a safe and effective manner, inspects the final product for accuracy, labels the product, maintains records of the manufacturing process, and attains a final check by a pharmacist./ Assembles various medication and supply kits for Pharmacist sign off. Manages ward stock which includes but not limited to inspecting ward stock supplies for unapproved items and outdates, performing necessary record keeping, screening all requests against the ward stock list, providing appropriate adjustments and/or communications/clarification, replenishing ward, clinics, and emergency stock drugs as accordance to policies and procedures. Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned areas (i.e. adult and geriatric populations). Assists customers at the pharmacy window and answers the telephone. Reviews requests for missing doses for appropriateness and reports unusual trends or issues to the supervisor or pharmacist in charge. Creates an environment to stimulate, encourage and support the participation of pharmacy personnel in providing drug information to the hospital staff and other facilities as deemed appropriate. Collects relevant data for Pharmacy Service quality improvement purposes and submits it timely to the Pharmacy Supervisor. Maintains conduct, attitude, and practice consistent with the Healthcare System's mission and vision goals as well as the Pharmacy's professional code of ethics. Grade Determinations: Pharmacy Technician, GS-06 Education or Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower level. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Knowledge of Federal and state laws related to pharmacy practice. Knowledge of preparation, storage and distribution of medication products including those requiring special handling and documentation. Ability to use pharmacy information systems or operate pharmacy dispensing equipment. Knowledge of basic inventory procedures. Ability to communicate with patients and staff and direct questions to appropriate personnel.
