Job Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Information Technology Consultant, competency level 3, position for the Division of Research and Innovation at Oregon State University ( OSU ).
The Division of Research and Innovation supports OSU's commitment to engaging in exceptional research by collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to facilitate ethical research, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the University's strategic plan:Prosperity Widely Shared (https://leadership.oregonstate.edu/provost/strategic-plan) . Under the general supervision of the Division of Research and Innovation ( DRI ) Director of Research Systems, Data Operations, and Innovation, this position is to provide system administration, technical assistance, training, and end-user support for the Research Equipment and Lab Management System ( RELMS ) administered by DRI . The position collaborates with other departments and OSU University Information and Technology ( UIT ) staff to identify and resolve technical issues related to system design and operations and contribute to UIT solutions. The position will be expected to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
35% RELMS System Administration, Technical Support, and Troubleshooting
Serve as technical resource for RELMS : provide system administration, monitor system notifications, facility assistance, user set-up, relays, and troubleshooting.
Provide support between vendor and DRI RELMS administrators. Communicate and coordinate updates of patches, user acceptance testing and roll out to production.
Evaluate integration solutions and approaches to meeting instrument needs.
Coordinate with UIT as needed for system support, instrument integrations, system optimization, system security, and other infrastructure needs.
Provide data support including troubleshooting, modification, updates, upgrades, and custom coding to meet DRI's requirements.
Support the onboarding process of facilities to the RELMS application by providing programming and customizations for integration with existing systems as allowed by third party vendors.
Assess the impact of new software on existing systems and users and develop modification plans as needed.
Test software changes or upgrades in staging environments prior to deployment on the production site.
Provide comprehensive hardware support for relay systems, ensuring consistent connectivity, proper configuration, timely firmware updates, and overall system reliability.
Consult with users in development of system modifications to determine appropriate action.
Ensure system integrity and efficiency.
Work with vendors, or UIT to resolve data integration & system issues
35% End-User System Support
Setup internal and external user accounts to RELMS and manage the active directory for RELMS .
Provide remote and/or on-site technical support to researchers, DRI staff, and users across campus by troubleshooting and resolving issues.
Communicate with team members and end-users who have varying technical abilities and illustrate an ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into technical reality that is extendable and maintainable.
Provide system and hardware support for the facility staff related to their research and development activities.
Understand customer needs and develop user support materials and manuals; deliver formal and informal training to users on RELMS or application use and features.
Act as a liaison and interface between staff, users, and UIT resources on application use and/or issues.
Identify and correct problems uncovered by user feedback and testing.
25% Research Systems Administration, Reporting, and Operations
Provide support for data analysis, business analytics, & reporting as needed.
Support billing and cost-recovery processes by ensuring data accuracy within management systems.
Provide implementation support, maintenance, system expertise, and technical assistance DRI research software systems as needed.
Contribute to process improvements and long-term planning for research systems.
Monitor compliance with university policies, IT security standards, and research funding requirements.
5% Other Duties
Participate in professional organizations and collaborative efforts with colleagues.
Remain informed about current technologies to support the evolution of the research system technology.
Other duties as assigned.
What We Require
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills of technology and information systems generally obtained through an AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study and at least one year of related work experience.

Demonstrated ability to understand, learn, and implement new hardware, operating systems, and software applications.
Demonstrated experience working in a complex environment with extensive state and federal regulations, for example in a university that demonstrates understanding of how to navigate the provision of IT services in a compliance-based environment.
Demonstrated proficiency in supporting diverse operating systems (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS), hardware, and software in a large, networked environment.
Familiarity with distributed and centralized IT systems, standards, and compliance protocols. General knowledge of network connectivity, integration, configuration, and protocols. Ability to identify hardware/software interface issues.
Experience with ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems. Working knowledge of server and network administration, scripting, and web technologies ( HTML , .Net). Proficiency with Microsoft Azure or any major cloud hosting platform.
Demonstrated ability to work independently while consulting others as necessary to resolve issues.
Experience with VPN , Remote Desktop Protocols, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
Ability to envision the "big picture" of how processes fit together and to discern the details of each process.
Ability to foster an inclusive and accessible environment for all user support needs
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have
2-3 years of experience in IT support, customer service, research facility operations, or a related administrative role.
Bachelor's degree in information systems, research administration, or related discipline.
Prior experience providing technical IT support in a university setting or research core facility environment.
Familiarity with research instrumentation scheduling systems (e.g., iLab, PPMS , NUCORE , or similar platforms).
Demonstrated experience in application development using Ruby on Rails, Java, and related programming languages, contributing to efficient, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
Knowledge of open-source code usage and contribution, including understanding integration into existing systems, and leveraging community-driven solutions to enhance development efficiency.
Industry certifications such as:
Microsoft certifications such as Office 365, Azure, and/or other Microsoft services, systems, and software
ITIL
Apple certifications
Cloud certifications such as AWS , Azure, GCP , etc.
CompTIA A+
Project Management experience.
Experience developing training materials or user support documentation.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
This position is predominately office-based on campus during typical work hours Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
