Office of Unemployment Insurance:
The Office of Workers' Compensation Administration (OWCA) in Louisiana oversees the enforcement and administration of workers' compensation laws, aiming to support early return-to-work efforts and improve workplace safety. The department manages disputed claims, conducts hearings, reviews medical treatment disputes, and investigates fraud through collaborative efforts like the GAME ON task force. The OWCA also provides OSHA consultation services to high-risk industries, while Records management maintains detailed records and reporting systems, including electronic submissions of injury reports. Additionally, OWCA conducts financial audits and ensures compliance among self-insured employers and insurance carriers.
The Administrative Assistant will provide clerical and administrative support to the Workers' Compensation Judge. This person will coordinate the activities of other clerical personnel when scheduling cases for hearing or trial on the court's docket.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Exercises independent judgment and initiative to determine whether the workers' compensation case is ready for trial or if additional conferences are needed, or may determine that some other form of appropriate action is necessary.
Conduct scheduling, pre-trial, and telephone status conferences.
Coordinates all activities associated with the judge's docket, including but not necessarily limited to scheduling of trials, hearings, and conferences.
Communicates via telephone, in person, and in writing all information related to the hearing docket. Explains legal and office requirements to parties requesting information regarding the hearings docket.
Independently composes and @types correspondence to staff regarding legal and administrative matters, general office policies, and programs.
May keep leave records, act as a receptionist, and perform other clerical duties as needed.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a Probational or a Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
Career Progression:This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as an Administrative Assistant 1, 2, 3, or 4, at which the vacancy is filled and will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position is an opportunity to advance within this job series.
