Position Description
The Workers' Compensation Claims Analyst is responsible for investigating and processing workers' compensation claims in a self-insured, self-administered environment, in accordance with Minnesota Workers' Compensation law.
Work Location:
This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Investigate claims and determine compensability within required time limits
Obtain and review medical records, manage care, and approve treatment
Authorize and process payments for medical treatment and related services
Issue wage loss benefits, including conversion credits and Injury on Duty pay coordination
Monitor ongoing medical care and determine maximum medical improvement and permanent partial disability
Calculate and pay permanent partial disability benefits
Assign and coordinate with vendors, including Qualified Rehabilitation Consultants
Determine availability of light duty and provide permanent work restrictions to departments
Assist with accommodation determinations
Review claim exposure and negotiate settlements with employees or attorneys
Manage legal defense and participate in mediations
Determine when to proceed with Independent Medical Evaluations
Review, respond to, and update the Minnesota Department of Labor Campus system
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree with Course work in Employee Benefits and Workers' Compensation Law, Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources or related.
Minimum Experience:
Five or more years' experience in the handling of self-insured Workers' Compensation indemnity claims, Workers' Compensation medical claims or Return to Work Programs.
Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and highly related experience in a similar environment may be considered.

The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps:a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score(70%)on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

Eligible List Statement:
The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire in one[1]month after it has been established.
