We are seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Department Manager to lead and oversee our commercial construction operations. This role is responsible for managing departmental performance, including project delivery, workforce planning, financial oversight, and client relationships. What You'll Do:
Department Leadership & Strategy
Provide overall leadership and direction for the commercial electrical construction department.
Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Partner with executive leadership to establish and achieve departmental goals and long-term growth initiatives.
Project & Operations Oversight
Manage all commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards.
Oversee project managers, superintendents, and field teams to ensure proper execution and communication.
Coordinate with estimating, purchasing, and scheduling to support successful project outcomes.
Financial Management
Oversee departmental financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L accountability.
Review and approve estimates, bids, and change orders in collaboration with the estimating team.
Monitor job costs, productivity, and profitability to ensure strong financial health.
Client & Business Development
Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, developers, and clients.
Support business development efforts by identifying and pursuing new project opportunities.
Represent the company at industry events, client meetings, and pre-bid conferences.
Team Development
Recruit, train, and mentor department staff including project managers, estimators, and field supervisors.
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to strengthen team capabilities.
Qualifications
What You'll Bring:
10+ years of experience in commercial electrical construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
Master Electrician license is preferred.
Strong knowledge of NEC, commercial electrical systems, and construction practices.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and teams in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with estimating, project management software, and construction financial reporting.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Driving Requirements
Must have a valid Virginia driver's license.
Must have positive points on state driving record.
Must be at least 21 years of age unless company approval is granted.
Must not have had a DUI, DWI, or reckless driving conviction in the last five years.
All driving records are run as part of our pre-employment process and reviewed at the discretion of the Safety Team.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to crawl, kneel, squat, and climb.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, unassisted.
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
