Medical Radiation Technologist
Applications are now being accepted for a part-time Medical Radiation Technologist to work in our X-Ray and CT departments. A robust training program is provided for those without CT experience. The successful applicant must be able to work days, afternoons, and nights Monday - Sunday including holidays to support the 24/7 operations of Diagnostic Imaging.
Job Functions
Adhere to policies and procedures established for the assigned department while supporting the Mission, Vision and Values of Erie Shores Healthcare
Maintains the confidentiality of all patient information
Is responsible for ongoing maintenance of competence by participating in quality monitoring programs, appropriate education and training, and for documenting such participation
Performs all duties with an understanding of and respect for the patients' rights
Collaborates with all medical radiation technologists, radiologists, and other health professionals to ensure the safe and effective delivery of service
Communicates effectively with patients, fellow technologists and other health care providers
Ensures the patient identified is the person named on the requisition and demographics (i.e. date of birth is verified)
Consistently practices safety procedures to ensure the protection of self, co-workers, patients and the public from sources of danger including physical injury and unnecessary radiation exposure
Implements routine and emergency safety procedures
Ensures that the patient is properly prepared prior to procedure
Ensures the patient is asked about contraindications and those that are identified are documented on the patient chart and obtain permission to proceed from the radiologist
Consults with radiologist or physician (if radiologist is not available) if something unusual or unexpected is noted, or to determine if extra views etc. are required
Recognizes, troubleshoots documents and reports equipment malfunction and initiates the proper remedial action in a timely manner
Reviews policy and procedures used in the delivery of services and recommends changes to improve the services provided
Perform any other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications
Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario required
Contrast Injection course required
X-Ray experience required
Mammography experience preferred
CT experience preferred
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work collaboratively as a team member
Well organized
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Demonstrates a commitment to excellent customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community.
General good health and a level of fitness appropriate for the demands of the position, ex. ability to lift, push, pull and tolerate prolonged periods of walking and standing
Basic level of proficiency in use of computers and other office equipment
