OUR MISSSION
Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.
About this position
The Orleans Levee District jurisdictional area falls under the umbrella of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-E) and includes East Jefferson, Orleans and St. Bernard parishes on the East Bank. It is the duty of the Orleans Levee District Police Department (OLD) to patrol and inspect the levees and floodwalls that surround Orleans Parish and to check various gauges and flood structures to ensure the integrity of the levee system.
This position performs a variety of clerical duties in support of the Orleans Levee District Police Captain and Department. The position reports to the Police Captain and serves as backup for the Superintendent of Police's Administrative Program Specialist A.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in administrative services.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Generate department memos on behalf of the Police Captain and other leadership
Complete necessary documents for the proper on-boarding of new employees maintain and update police department files
Perform tasks associated with the agency's FEMA reimbursement process (collection of FEMA daily activity sheets)
Write responses to outside agencies on behalf of Police Captain
Ensure the police department is properly stocked on supplies needed for daily usage: paper materials, office supplies, water, coffee, janitorial supplies
Attend training to keep up to date on best practices and procedures for property and evidence maintenance
Keep record of police personnel leave usage for accurate timekeeping
Keep record of police daily activity reports and inter-office correspondence

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
NOTE: The Orleans Levee District is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the mission is to protect the residents of Orleans Parish from tidal surge, wind-driven water and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane Tropical Storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
