The incumbent of this position provides transportation for Residents, delivers and transports packages and parcels between Veterans Homes, buildings and vendors. This position also performs grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, weeding and snow removal and sanding for the campus. This position may also drive the Resident Work Therapy crew to and from Fort Snelling during the months of May through September.
The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) which is an independent living community for Veterans. It provides a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our rewarding program helps Veterans with their clinical, mental, chemical, and physical needs, and has the capacity to serve 195 Veterans between the Hastings and Minneapolis campuses. The Hastings DOM is located in the southeast metro with connecting highways for an easy commute. The beautiful 128-acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Vermillion River.

Minimum Qualifications
Valid Minnesota Class C Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or higher with passenger endorsement or the ability to obtain within the probationary period
Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions
Must have current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or the ability to obtain CPR Certification by the time of hire
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Veterans and/or vulnerable adults
Groundskeeping experience such as mowing and edging, trimming trees/plants, planting flowers, weeding and snow removal
Experience with any repair, and/or equipment maintenance work
Knowledge of auto mechanics sufficient to perform routine maintenance tasks such as checking tire pressure, checking fluid levels, lubrication and cleaning of the vehicle
Additional Requirements
This position requires successful completion of the following:
A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check
A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment
Employment reference checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s)
Finalists will be required to pass a driver's license check
Finalists will be subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and return-to-duty drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Department of Transportation regulations. Individuals not currently in the state commercial driver's license random drug and alcohol testing pool must pass a pre-employment drug test for evidence of non-use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines.
