Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

14 years of experience working within government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporations.

Experience working in government relations, government affairs, public policy, political campaigns, lobbying, outreach, or in a research role.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience with Internet/technology policy with interest in keeping the Internet open and free.

Experience in state government, or leading policy or public affairs work for corporations or third-party organizations, (e.g., being a lobbyist or running campaigns).

Experience with staffing and managing executives.

Ability to integrate public policy with business strategy and corporate development.

Excellent leadership, communication and collaboration skills.

As a member of Google's Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You'll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you'll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

In this role, as Senior Manager for New York and Northeast states, you are responsible for leading the team of Government Affairs professionals who cover the region. You will develop regional objectives and strategies, provide policy/legislation analysis, own and manage relationships with Governors' offices and state legislatures, monitor and actively engage with regulatory agencies, manage the political giving portfolio and work with other colleagues on the team to develop third-party partnerships to advocate for a positive business environment. You will oversee the relationships on the municipal level, especially in the localities where the company has a presence.

Google Client Services, an entity within the Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team, manages the company's engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy in the United States. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others' views and opinions, and distill and share the company's perspectives with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the Internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $221,000-$311,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities:

Set the strategy for New York and other Northeast states and manage a team of two Government Affairs professionals and consultants.

Monitor policy issues of importance to Google. Create a positive regulatory environment to enable innovation and growth. Synthesize Google's positions and educate policy makers on key policy issues. Communicate policy positions effectively to government constituencies.

Build relationships with governors' offices, state legislators, third-parties and others. Establish and implement strategies to communicate policy positions to key constituencies. Advocate before relevant elected officials and public entities.

Develop and execute public affairs strategies and campaigns that build relationships, strengthen the reputation and advance the public policy and business objectives.

Interface and work with trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and other stakeholders to build support for Google's policy positions.
